Harry Reid has started his disinformation campaign in rural Nevada to try and blunt the palpable hatred which those whose economy he has single handedly destroyed feel for him.
Typically tone deaf, he’s telling people in Ely, Nevada (among other rural markets where we own radio stations) that he has protected their gun rights.
Never mind that he changed his mind on coal-fired power plants and cost that county 2400 jobs.
Never mind that his health-care bill (Reid-Pelosi-Obamacare) comes down particularly hard on rural communities.
Never mind that Reid typically forgets rural Nevada exists between elections.
Harry has protected our gun rights.
Oh really, Harry?
Weren’t you the guy who was the leading cheerleader for both Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagen’s nominations to the Supreme Court.
And didn’t Sotomayor dissent on the recent McDonald decision in which the Supreme Court declared gun-ownership a constitutionally guaranteed right which extended to the citizens of Chicago? And didn’t you vote against confirming the justices who made that decision?
But none of those inconvenient truths stopped Harry from running the following radio spot on radio stations in Ely, Elko and Winnemucca:
“ANNOUNCER: Harry Reid was 12 when his father gave him his first rifle, starting a lifelong love of guns. Today, no one’s doing more to protect our guns than Harry Reid.
REID: Hunting, owning guns, it’s part of who we are, and a fundamental constitutional right. Announcer: When Republican Bill Young was Sheriff, he saw Harry up close.
YOUNG: Nobody has fought any harder for second amendment rights than Harry Reid.
ANNOUNCER: The NRA calls him a true champion of the second amendment. There’s more. Harry Reid stopped out of state hunters from getting more of our licenses. Larry Johnson, President of the Nevada Wildlife coalition.
JOHNSON: He’s saved hunting as we know it in Nevada.
ANNOUNCER: And it was Harry Reid who brought the nation’s best shooting park to Nevada.
JOHNSON: Because of his efforts we have the finest shooting facility in the United States.
ANNOUNCER: The power to protect our rights, more land for hunting, new gun facilities, that’s Harry Reid.
REID: I’m Harry Reid. As long as I’m Senate Leader, your guns are safe. That’s the reason I’m running for re-election and that’s why I approved this message.”
I’ll let our readers—each and every one of whom are smarter than Reid and his handlers—pick apart the nonsensical claims in this radio spot. Suffice it to say that the only reason they are running on our rural radio stations is that the law says we have to let him say what he wants and we cannot reject the business since it is a Federal election.
Also suffice it to say that if these spots were subject to the actual truth in advertising laws which Reid is so proud of having passed, I would have rejected them immediately.
But a person who has no more respect for the truth than this can have little or no respect for his constituents.
And this is the guy who says Sharron Angle is too extreme.
